The starling is an often underrated but beautiful bird. Individually the iridescence of their feathers and quiet intelligence makes them a beguiling creature. Their sociable and cooperative nature within their flocks gives rise to magnificent aerial murmurations. Perhaps this helps to explain why starlings have come to symbolise family and emotional bonds. Threads of colour and swirling fabric surrounding figures is a recurring theme in my paintings. I try to use colour to describe the figure's internal thoughts and emotions.
